Tip: Prep food before the party

Do as much prep work as possible before the party begins. If you are baking, put together the entire dish and keep it in the fridge uncooked until you are ready to pop it in the oven. If you are cooking on the stove, do all your chopping, mixing, etc. before hand so that you have more time to spend with your guests.

Tip: Don't have guests make their own cocktails

One easy way to end up with a mess is by simply placing alcohol on a bar and allowing guests to pour and mix their own drinks. A much better idea is to create two signature cocktails and mix them in large pitchers before hand. You can even pour them into glasses, garnish, and place them on trays so guests can just grab and go.

Tip: The bathroom is part of the party too

Many hosts forget that almost every guest at the party will see your bathroom. Don't forget to make a good impression in this room as well. Clean ahead of time and don't forget to decorate a little in here too. Balloons would obviously seem weird but a few candles and hand lotion will create a great impression among your guests.
