Tip: Teaching kids to pay attention

A good trick to keeping the attention of young kids is to keep a colorful toy or stuffed animal on hand. Explain to the students that only the child who is holding the stuffed animal has permission to talk. This way only one student will be able to talk at one time.

Tip: Cooking can be educational

Although most parents may be in a rush to get dinner on the table at night, cooking with your kids is a great way to help improve their math skills and continue the learning process at home. Ask your kids to perform simple tasks like measure 1/2 a cup of milk or separate veggies into equal portions. It also forces you to make a home-cooked meal, which beats ordering a pizza every night.

Tip: Talk to your baby

If you are the parent of a toddler, notice what your baby is paying attention to at any given time and be sure to talk about that object. Even if the baby can't understand you yet, they will learn things quicker if you don't confuse them by talking about subjects that have nothing to do with what is going on at the time.
